Except for an occasional quack ducks are quiet creatures though they are rarely solitary. Which brings me to my subject. Why humans feel the need to talk as much as they do has always eluded me. Conversation is wonderful and it has its place- we are nothing if not exuberant communicators- but it can be overdone.
I am observing a day of silence, if that is at all possible. (Writing and photography allowed.)
This month, even more so than last, it is quiet here at the pond- in greatest contrast to summer. Today I appreciate the company of these restful mallards and, apparently, I am quiet enough to be companionable myself.
