Today a peony, that giant rose-scented flower. Absolutely gorgeous. Here on the Cape all the air is scented with roses in June. Cultivated and wild, in yards, on roadsides, along the beach. It is just heavenly when the sun is out and the air is warm- heady and soothing at the same time. Although the rains have been hard on everything that isn’t green, our blueberries over at the farm are tough and happy and growing strong. Week two of the Canada Geese continues- they don’t seem to be going anywhere anytime soon. I will not capture her, I have decided that, nor will I worry excessively over her, her companions have her back. They amaze me, however, they are messy…

I invited a few select friends to visit this new blog. My favorite comment was from a dear friend who admired my adventurousness but confessed she didn’t know exactly what a blog was…I told her it is like writing an open letter to the world, or living in a parallel universe, or maybe carrying on a secret life that is not secret at all. It might turn out to be like anything new you adore for a week and then tire of, or it might fit just right like that old favorite sweater you’ve been wearing for 10 years. Time will tell.
I find the mixture of spontaneity and intention an interesting one. I often think of Hemingway’s advice to not put the pencil down for the day until you know where you’re going to start in tomorrow. I’ve always thought that was good advice.
