Day Lilies…nothing else says high summer to me as these bright pumpkin-colored flowers. They can grow anywhere and do, self-propagating themselves in abundance. Like many, I called them Tiger Lilies for far too long a time until a master gardener friend pointed out the difference. I was a little embarrassed but grateful to finally learn their real name. And Day Lily is such an appropriate and beautiful one, as each flower-let lives for a single day alone. So they are like the days of summer, blooming with dawn and fading with sunset until each and every one is spent. Their cheerful message- be here now.
