I picked up two of these mice at a craft fair yesterday. Craft fairs are a summer tradition here and I seek them out. I am always amazed at the creativity I see and enjoy talking to the artists, some of whom I know. There may be a distinction in some people’s minds about being a fine artist, an artisan, or a crafts person. I’m not interested in that when I am strolling around under the white tents sipping lemonade, sniffing hand made soap, admiring photographs, driftwood wreaths, or beach glass jewelry. This was not a juried exhibition so there was an eclectic mix, from exquisite pottery to just plain kitsch. These mice caught my eye.

The detail is remarkable and they are simply darling. The craftswoman was especially nice. Unfortunately, she did not put her card in the bag so I don’t even know her name. She said she was from NY state so I will try to track her down. Visiting artist’s websites and staying in touch is part of the fun. These were priced ridiculously low for the work involved. They simply glow with the care that went into them. Everyone will love them at the library- who doesn’t love Halloween! I should have bought more…

The point being, creativity is a joyful act that touches the creator and the created, and its beneficiaries, us;  it is meant to be shared.
